Frequently Asked Questions

Assessments are often recommended when there are concerns about learning difficulties, attention, emotional regulation, social skills, or developmental milestones. They can also help clarify diagnoses such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, or learning disorders.

I work with children of all ages but specialize in ages 2-10.

Depending on the referral question, assessments may include cognitive abilities, academic skills, language, memory, attention, executive functioning, emotional wellbeing, and social development.

The process typically involves several sessions over one to three weeks. This includes interviews, testing sessions, scoring, interpretation, and a feedback meeting to discuss results and recommendations.

Assessments are designed to be engaging and age-appropriate. Children complete a variety of tasks, such as puzzles, questions, and games, with breaks as needed. The goal is to help them feel comfortable and confident throughout the process.

Ensure your child is well-rested, has eaten, and brings any necessary items like glasses or hearing aids. Let them know they’ll be doing different activities to help the psychologist understand how they learn and think—there are no right or wrong answers.

Once testing is complete, the psychologist reviews and interprets the results. A detailed report is prepared, outlining findings, diagnoses (if applicable), and personalized recommendations for home, school, and therapy.

Yes. Families receive a comprehensive written report that summarizes results, insights, and practical recommendations. The psychologist will review the report with you during a feedback session.

With your consent, the report or a summary can be shared with teachers, physicians, or other professionals to support coordinated care and educational planning.

Coverage depends on your insurance provider and plan. Many extended health benefits cover psychological services, but it’s best to confirm details directly with your provider. Direct billing is not available at this time.

Reassessments are typically recommended every two to three years, or sooner if there are significant changes in development, learning, or behaviour.

The length of therapy varies depending on the child’s goals and progress. Some children benefit from short-term support, while others may need ongoing sessions over several months. Progress is reviewed regularly to ensure therapy remains effective and relevant.

Parent involvement is an important part of the process. Depending on the child’s age and needs, parents may join sessions, receive coaching, or participate in follow-up meetings to support strategies at home.

In-person (home or community) and virtual sessions are available, depending on the family’s preferences and the child’s needs.

Our standard rate is $220/hr. Assessment cost will vary depending on the extent of testing, number of assessments administered, and number of sessions required for observation and connection. In general, ASD, ADHD, and Psycho-Educational assessments will range between $2000-$4000, while behavioural and social/emotional assessments will cost between $1000-$1500.
